Sugar Mama

virgin.pngVirgin Mobile USA announced several new well known brands were joining its Sugar Mama marketing program. With Sugar Mama, subscribers can gain free airtime minutes by watching advertisements. The program was launched in the summer of 2006, and has hosted more than 250,000 users, with over 1,000 more joining each day. Over 3 million minutes of airtime have been earned by these users.

Sugar Mama sponsors are chosen to appeal to the youth minded demographic of Virgin Mobile USA. Existing sponsors include Xbox (Microsoft) and truth ® (the smoking prevention campaign from American Legacy Foundation ®). The new marketing partners to join Sugar Mama include Levi Strauss Signature ®, Sony Pictures (Columbia/Tristar), the U.S. Navy, and Jive Records (Sony/BMG Entertainment).

The marketing content that is shown varies according to the sponsor, with Jive Records showing portions of music videos, Sony Pictures showing movie trailers, and the U.S. Navy featuring spots similar to its TV ads.
