UK Football Clubs Launch Bluetooth Marketing

football.gifSeven British football clubs have launched Bluetooth marketing drives in and around their home stadiums during matches. The service will be run by Bluepod Media who will be allowed to create and distribute branded content to the spectators.

Fans of Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City, West Ham, Portsmouth, Wigan Athletic, Wolves and Celtic will be able to opt-in in order to receive club profiles, fixtures, news and manager notes. The cost of this will be absorbed by advertisers at a pay-per-download rate of between GBP 40p and 70p.

A recent Trial at a Portsmouth match showed very good results. 6,245 fans opted in to download a film trailer out of a total crowd of 20,200 (31%).

John Scorah, Managing Director, Bluepod Media: “Brands waste millions of pounds targeting football fans on match days via traditional media which is both uninspiring and not measurable. We now offer brands the opportunity to create a one to one relationship with fans that adds value to their matchday experience.”

Several well known brands currently work with Bluepod, these include Vue, Cineworld and Showcase and they recently ran a campaign to promote the LG Viewty phone.
