Mobile marketing gaining traction with SME’s, but poor marketing is costing billions

smartphonecoins.gifAcross the UK, small and medium enterprises (SME’s) are missing billions of pounds of revenue by letting marketing efforts slip off their radar.

However, almost half are already implementing mobile marketing, and even more have plans to.

PB Smart Essentials ran a survey of SME’s to understand how they did marketing, and specifically mobile marketing. The team at smallbizsuperhero.com put the key findings into the infograph below.

Overall, the study found that fully more than 10% of SME’s do none of their planned marketing activities, which they figure represents a loss in sales of around 9.2%.

While 36% said that the reason for this inactivity was due to a lack of time, further investigation showed that in fact the problem is that poor prioritisation results in low level tasks taking precedence over marketing. For example, 35% of owners mentioned buying stationary in their tasks compared to 32% including marketing.

While about half the SME’s said that they do engage in mobile marketing, less than 10% currently have a mobile optimized website. This is usually a prerequisite for effective mobile marketing and commerce.
