AdMob Opens New York Office
And Sets Sites on Japan

admob.jpgAdMob has taken further steps in its rapid expansion by opening an office in New York City, and next it looks ready to take on the Japanese market.

The “AdMob East” office will serve the growing interest in mobile advertising among New York based agencies. The AdMob East team will be led by two sales directors Adam Schneider and Robyn Borok.

“Marketers are increasingly extending their campaigns to mobile and we want to be available to guide them through best practices,” said Tony Nethercutt, AdMob Vice President of Sales. “We are deepening our presence in New York to better support agencies and brands as they ramp their mobile marketing efforts.”

Not far behind, AdMob looks set to open offices in Japan sometime in February. It’s an aggressive move for AdMob to enter the Japanese market which is well-known for its technological advancement and tough competition.

However, it makes sense for AdMob to go to Japan, because wherea the US and European mobile markets are showing great promise, the Japanese market is in fact much further ahead. In Japan, 10% of online marketing budgets are already spent on mobile.

This would be AdMob’s first venture into a non-English speaking market. But their website has already been translated into Japanese and there are reports that they have already beta tested the local ad platform. One potential problem comes from the local competition, where companies such as D2 Communications have been delivering banner ads since 2000.
