SXSW Accelerator Award Winners

Earlier this week in Austin, Texas, the winners of the 2013 SXSW Accelerator competition were announced.

The seven winning companies represent the best innovation categories such as Mobile, Gaming, Social, Health, News, Web, plus The Best Bootstrap Company.


This year over 500 companies entered the competition. A panel of experienced industry veterans – including MobiAD’s Ferhan Cook – selected 56 of these companies to demonstrate their product in front of a live audience at SXSW. And then finally the winners in seven categories were selected by a judging group of industry experts, early adopters, journalists, and representatives of the VC community.

Here are the winners:

News Technologies:

Phone2Action – a mobile platform that uses SMS to connect constituents with their elected officials.

Health Technologies:

Neurotrack – a technique to diagnosis Alzheimer’s disease years before clinical symptoms appear.

Innovative Web Technologies:

Wanderu – building the simplest way to book trips on buses and trains, enabling low-budget travelers to connect with affordable transportation.

Mobile Technologies:

Syntellia – a way for consumers to type on the familiar keyboard layout on their smartphones without having to look at the screen.

Entertainment and Gaming Technologies:

MakieLab – using a 3D-printer to customize toys and dolls and let people combine digital and physical play.

Social Technologies:

Plotter – a social mapping app that enables people to create, share, and crowdsource maps on their phone.

Best Bootstrap: (the company who has done the most with least)

InfoActive – turning data streams into interactive infographics for media companies.
