Ebay Sees Massive Growth In Mobile Revenue

ebay-logo.gifOnline aunction site Ebay has announced that their revenue from Mobile has increased by 300% reaching US$2 billion.

They also announced that they were receiving 94 bids via mobile devices worldwide every minute.

The growth in mobile revenues follows the development of various mobile apps for the iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile 7 which have been downloaded over 30 million times.

Clare Gilmartin, VP of Ebay Europe, said, “It’s staggering to think that $2bn worth of sales has been generated through a platform that didn’t exist a couple of years ago, and on a device that didn’t exist three years ago.”

This increase in revenue includes Ebay generating £3.3 million of mobile sales on December 12 alone in the UK. The German and English market represent nearly 1/3 of Ebay’s global mobile sales.

Other interesting stats from Ebay:

  • A purchase is made every second through eBay’s mobile apps
  • 13 pieces of clothing, pairs of shoes or accessories are sold every minute through its mobile apps
  • Three to four Ferraris are purchased every month through its mobile apps
  • Diamond jewelry, designer handbags and luxury watches topped 2010’s most expensive holiday purchases
