A recent study of consumers on the Myxer platform has shown that females download twice as much mobile content as males do.
Myxer, which was founded in 2005, has a large catalog of ringtones, wallpapers, videos, applications and games with over a billion downloads annually.
The report found that of the 6.7 million downloads on the platform in April, 67% (4.5 million) came from Females while 33% (2.2 million) came from Males.
According to the report this difference is mainly due to two factors.
The report also looks at the difference in downloads between genders on the Android and iPhone platforms and finds that on Android the average female downloads 7.6 pieces of content a month during April compared with 6.0 for males. This represents 21% less downloads from Males using Android than from Females.
When it comes to the iPhone the difference is much smaller where Females download 6% more than males (3.0 items compared with 2.8).
“Looking at the gender breakdown across the more than 34 million users on Myxer’s platform, it’s apparent that female users are the ones driving mobile content downloads,” said Myk Willis, CEO of Myxer.
