Orange has announced a partnership with restaurant chain EAT to promote its new contactless payment system in the UK.
Quick Tap Treats will allow the network’s users with Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled handsets to tap their phone on posters at any one of EAT’s 110 stores to receive a free ‘treat’ every day.
Running from early March until the summer, the Quick Tap treats will range from coffee and fruit, to ham and cheese baguettes. The campaign aims to drive customers into EAT stores.
NFC technology, similar to that found in Oyster cards, is the latest in a series of contactless payment initiatives, letting users settle small bills immediately without having to carry cash or input PIN numbers.
The move comes more than three years after Barclays first introduced contactless cards in the UK.
Orange UK’s Chief Marketing Officer, Pippa Dunn said: “Last year we started a whole new movement in the way consumers make payments on the high street, and with Quick Tap Treats, we’re continuing this with a new and innovative way for our customers to receive rewards for their loyalty.”
