Every year at this time we see dozens of “Top Trends” predictions for the upcoming year. This year, top tier VC firm Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers has released one of the most comprehensive and interesting presentations we have seen for a long while.
It includes lots of data about the state of the mobile internet, mobile advertising, and mobile platforms, as well as making some very interesting projections. Highly recommended.
The study covers a wide range of mobile topics, which gives a good overview of where the industry is really heading.
Many of the slides in the report really help put the different parts of the industry in perspective. For example, the comparison of the size of these three different types of platform: Social, Search, and Mobile.
There is also an analysis of the mobile advertising industry, concluding that there are certain compelling strengths of mobile that will drive its uptake.
One of the most surprising bits of information concerned the different levels of consumer engagement seen on each of the main mobile platforms. Android and iPhone users show a much higher rate of app download than any other mobile OS.
(note: to activate the download you may need to create a SlideShare account, but it is free, it takes just a minute to do, and there is lots of very interesting material on the site.)
