Google Rumor: Special Feature to Target iPhones

iphone_google.gifAn interesting article in AdWeek recently reported that Google has been showing agencies a new search ad option that can target iPhone users. Although Google has not confirmed these ad options, they have said that the idea has been under consideration. The concept is that advertisers would be able show specially designed ads when a search request is received from an iPhone user.

This would be another demonstration of the growing impact of the iPhone. Although shipments have been relatively modest compared to other mobile phone models, iPhone users are very active users of mobile internet and are representing an increasingly attractive demographic. A number of other companies have already announced iPhone specific ad units. As reported in MobiAD News, these include:

Greystripe (for mobile games)

Smaato (for handset applications)

JumpTap

AdMob
